In conversation with Shivam :
1. When did you discover a singer in you ?
It was just a hobby for me. And as I moved to Delhi and took admission in Motilal Nehru college, I gave auditions in music society of our college. They rejected me and this thing pinched me a lot. I enrolled myself in a private music academy. And as time passed by and my Riyaaz became stronger day by day, I thought to make it my profession and I am working on it .
2.What all struggles you faced uptil now. Who all were the constant supporters?
It’s easy to say “Bhai tu to Rockstar ban gya”. As most of my friends say this. But no one knows the real picture. No one becomes a rockstar in 1 or 2 songs. You need to be up to the mark in each and every song. The investment required to release a song is not less and you yourself have to do savings for that. Going for auditions in different cities and standing in big queues without eating anything. There is a long list brother :p
And my parents and my sister is very supportive. Like they never said no. My close friends supported me a lot. I had left many things in between. Like I have taken coaching for CA and SCC but dropped it in between because I was interested in Music and now I have a very clear picture to make my career in music only.
3. Your Audit Debut -“Kala Surma” was amazing. Are you heading towards other songs too?
Yeah. I am working on 2 more video songs to release in future. Hope everything works out great. Recently I have done Despacito -Indian Version.
4.What was your motivation to choose Singing as a career path? Do you have any family background of singers?
No, I am the first one in my family to opt music as a career. As a youngster, my father had a dream to be a singer but he couldn’t learn it as my Bauji(Dada ji) didn’t let him learn because of business pressure. So I just want to make him happy. As it’s my passion too.
5.What are your other areas of interest?
Playing Cricket is love. I am fond of Traveling too. And whenever I have time I have a hand in acting skills. Favorite can be spirituality though.
6.Who is your ideal role model in the industry?
I follow many singers and it worked out well for me as it helped me to sing Punjabi and Hindi both. So Sonu Nigam, Arijit Singh, Jassi Gill and Diljit paaji are the singers I follow.
And as I love acting, so Akshay kumar is the one I admire the most as an actor and as a human being.
7.Tell us something about your Riyaaz time period. How do you cope up with studies?
I generally do 2 hours of riyaaz daily. I think it’s enough to exercise vocal muscles completely.
Studies? Lol ? . There’s only one field in life we can work completely upon. Otherwise, it’s like sailing 2 boats together. So I study only 10 days before exam .
8.What type of a songs would interest you the most, and why?
Generally I love the romantic Bollywood numbers. But I love fast party numbers too. I am quite comfortable to sing in these two genres.
9.How do you think you will handle the prospect of fame and the perks/downfalls that come with it? Are you aspiring to become a famous singer?
I am a realistic person and I am up for everything. Like I can do whatever it takes to become what I want. There are phases. With every bad phase, a good phase is waiting for you. So believe in yourself and let it go. Yes, I aspire to be a famous singer but I am working on improving my singing right now rather than becoming famous and investing more.
10. Are there any experiences which you would describe/share with our upcoming youth singers?
Yes, generally new singers want to be famous overnight but we all should remember “Hamara kaam hai bas mehnat karna, Maalik ka kaam hai dena”. So always do your karma and he will definitely Reward you for your work.
