The National Institute of Technology, Agartala, or NITA, is a technology-oriented institute of higher education established by India’s Ministry of Human Resource Development Government of India in Agartala, India. It was founded as Tripura Engineering College in 1965 and declared a National Institute of Technology (NIT) in 2006. It is recognised as an Institute of National Importance, by an act of the Parliament of India. It is a leading reputed technical institute of the country along with the NITs. It is the best technical institute of the North Eastern region of India after IIT Guwahati as ranked by National Institutional Ranking Framework, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
NIT Agartala Ranking
NIT Agartala is ranked 52nd best engineering college of India 2016 and 11th among NITs by National Institutional Ranking Framework, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. It is also ranked 89th best university of India 2016 by National Institutional Ranking Framework, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. This is the first NIT to enter the list of Best Universities of India 2016 by National Institutional Ranking Framework.
Courses Offered at NIT Agartala
This institute offers nine four-year undergraduate programmes in engineering. All undergraduate programmes lead to a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree. Post graduate Master’s of Technology (M.Tech) courses in chemical engineering, civil engineering, civil and structural engineering, electrical, electronic and computer engineering, instrumentation, mechanical engineering and production engineering are also offered. From July 2013, dual-degree courses in engineering physics and a five-year integrated course in applied physics, chemistry and mathematics have also been started.

UG Eligibility criteria in NIT Agartala
- The minimum academic qualification for admission is “pass” in the qualifying examination (10+2 or its equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English, having secured pass marks in each subject.
- Only those candidates whose date of birth falls on or after October 01, 1992 are eligible for admission in 2017-2018 session.However in case of SC, ST and PH candidates, the upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years.
- The candidate must be in good mental and physical health, and should satisfy the standard physical fitness criteria of the Institute (to be examined and certified by the Medical Officer of the Institute).
- The candidate must appear in JEE examination and secure a rank required by the college for admission through merits.
