In conversation with Naina Jain :
1) Naina what sparked your creative interest in tattoo art?
I am good at art since my childhood. After completing my school, I was confused about my further studies. So, I decided to join an art school, unfortunately I couldn’t join it due to some personal family issues. After that I joined BSSS College Bhopal and completed my BBA as a graduation course. In mid days I met Akash Chandani at his tattoo studio in Bhopal, it inspired me somehow ,that this is something I always wanted to do. His work on display wall were the 1st inspiration.
2) Were you an artist from your childhood?
Yes! I was very creative, I use to participate in all the art competitions that my school use to conduct. My creative skills include – Mehendi, drawing, painting, wall arts, glass painting and craft. Besides my love towards drawing I enjoy dancing as well.
3) Naina being the first female tattoo artist in your city is a matter of pride. How have you managed to achieve that?
Tattooing is basically a male dominated industry. Yes It was quite different to be a part of this industry, but yes it took a lot of courage and guts to fight for my dreams. And it’s too dam difficult when you have conservative family and atmosphere. Being a tattoo artist is a pride for me, I have achieved something which women never think of getting done on their skin without letting their parents know. It takes a lot of patience & courage to become a personality after facing so many problems. Akash Chandani (my Mentor) supported me a lot in every phase. I’m glad to be a part of his life now and being the first female tattooer in city.
4) Most of the parents want their child to be a doctor or an engineer. How did you manage to convince them?
This question is quite difficult for me to answer, I tried a lot to convince my parents but they never tried to understand me. I left my place for this profession & moved to Bhopal permanently just because of tattooing. I’ve never been to my hometown after this phase. My parents don’t support my career choice. It’s just a hope that one day they will understand my feelings and my true dedication towards my profession 🙂
5 ) If you had a chance to go back and choose your career again what would it be?
This will always be the same. A true artist always wants to be with his/her art so if not a tattooer then I would love to be an art teacher.
6) Naina whom would you give the credits to for where you are today?
The only person who supported me when no one did and stood by my side, made me what I am today is my mentor Akash Chandani.
7) Any tips, precautions you would like to share with the readers who wants to get a tattoo?
Don’t get a tattoo when you’re hangover or drunk. As long as you take these precautions, you are safe, Also search for your artist’s work profile: Go to a professional, reputed tattoo artist. A professional will use only organic inks and maintain proper hygiene during the entire process. Also, live life without any regrets.
