Facilities:
IIIT Hyderabad provides some of the best facilities for those interested in studying computer science or Electronics. The labs are equipped with the latest equipment in sufficient quantity. High speed WiFi internet is provided 24×7. The labs are open around the clock for the aid of researchers since a lot of emphasis is given to projects and research. There are customized research centres for different fields such as Robotics, Security and Signal Processing. The labs are also sponsored for research by leading IT giants.
The library is one of the best in the country and has a plethora of books and journals. Also, it has subscriptions to all science, technology and research journals online. It is also well stocked with reference and text books, technical reports and literature.
There is no shortage of facilities for athletes. There are well developed and maintained grounds and stadiums for badminton, hockey, swimming, cricket, volleyball, football, basketball etc.
Hostels:
All students are supposed to stay in hostels, which have all basic amenities and are very comfortable. All rooms are connected to internet and local Intranet in order to enable research from rooms. The hostels are equipped with a mini gym , table tennis room , coolers etc. There are four messes, including a common mess and all the managerial work is done by indigenously developed IT portal. The canteen also serves non-vegetarian.
Academics:
The college is very serious about academics and attendance. Low attendance can cost you grades!
However, it is a rare occurrence since the main focus of students here is study and research.
The main difference between IIIT-H and other engineering colleges is the curriculum. The focus is on the department you choose from the very first semester with some foundation courses on computer science or electronics. In many semesters, projects are included as part of the curriculum so that everyone can apply their theoretical knowledge. As their website says, “The programme is designed to create innovators and researchers.”
In the initial stages of the programme, basic introductory courses are covered such as databases and algorithms. In the later stages, students can focus on the fields of their interest.
Placements:
The placements are very good given the quality of education the institute provides. It often beats top IITs in term of average package which was Rs. 18.53 lpa for CSE and Rs. 13.44 lpa for ECE in 2016, with the highest being Rs.35 lpa for CSE and Rs.27.30 lpa for ECE. The institute boats of 100% placements for B.Tech and M.Tech and nearly 100% for MS.
Some popular recruiters are Adobe, American Express, Qualcomm, HCL, Samsung, Symantec, Verizon and Facebook among others.
