‘GHALIB IN JAIL’, ‘LORD RAM IN COURT’- His Masterpieces Are Ruling Over Social Media ! Meet Gaurav Tripathi- A Writer Beyond Times

gaurav tripathi poetry lord ram in court interview student stories

“I would define, in brief, the poetry of words as the rhythmical creation of Beauty”

Perhaps the most vital element of poetry is rhythm. Often the rhythm of each line is arranged in a particular meter. Different types of meter played key roles in Classical, Early European, Eastern and Modern poetry. In the case of free verse, the rhythm of lines is often organized into looser units of cadence. Mastering the art of rhythm and quality in all his creations and performances so far is Gaurav Tripathi, the man for whom poetry is not just a rhyme or rhythm or a piece of creative work but a media through which he can relate with people.

Gaurav is a poet beyond time who has been in high demands for his best pieces like “Ghalib in jail”, “Lord Ram in court” , “Second Hand ZIndagi” etc. His content is powerful and engaging and his audience loves his performances so much. This brings us to our next story for Student Stories where will share about his poetic and other life experiences in the interview down below.

A GREAT PERFORMANCE BY GAURAV TRIPATHI

In conversation with Gaurav Tripathi :

What is poetry for you ? How important it is for our society?

Poetry is the oldest form of storytelling. Stories which were told in the form of poetry are alive till date.

This tells us that this form of expression has a special power of leaving an indelible mark in people’s conscious. Making it a really important art form for the society. As far as I am concerned, Poetry for me is a method to relate with people and make them relate with me. You see, a good poem tells alot about the poet and surprisingly the one who listens or reads the poem automatically identifies himself or herself with the poet. That interrelation is an amazing experience for both the poet and the listener/reader

When and how did you discover the poet in you? Who inspired you to become one?

There wasn’t a particular moment of discovery. It takes a lot of time, thought and reading to write poetry. Poetry is more than just rhyme and rhythm. Also it is not a field that you can choose to be in. Poetry chooses you and it is every thing around you that inspires you to write.

Which was the first ice breaking performance of your career?

If you are referring to the Open Mic performances, I got appreciation in my first performance itself.

Although that wasn’t my favorite piece and now I have stopped performing it and don’t even talk about it.

How does a poem begin for you an idea, a form or an image?

My Poems begin with an itch. A desire to say something. That’s obviously inspired by the outside world.

Then that itch turns into a thought and that thought is left in some section of my conscious for months to incubate. Atleas that’s what happened with some of my better pieces.

A CLASS APART PERFORMANCE BY GAURAV

On which form of poetry you mainly love working at?

All forms. I like learning new forms and try them depending upon the merit of my thought. I write in meter, I write without meter. I write with rhyme, without rhyme.

Is there any difference between modern age poets and old age poets? If yes, what and which one do you prefer personally?

It depends upon who are you calling Modern Age poets. The one’s who are selfproclaimed poets or the one’s who really are poets?Anyhow, poets of every age have a basic difference of worldview. Times change, and so does our perception of the world. Even the definition of truth changes with time.

Today we have a concept called Post Truth.So this change in philosophy definitely affects the thought and content of poetry, but more importantly, what it also does is it changes the form of poetry.

Its greatest example is in Hindi Literature where after the Chhayawad movement, the Nayi Kavita movement didn’t discard the ideas of the previous movement but it also became independent of rhyme, meter and in some cases even the rhythm.-

What message do you want to give through your poems to the society?

I don’t know how qualified I am to give a message.

I just have a particular way of thinking I write according to that and it’s good that people can relate with it.

Is there any memorable moment that you want to share with us?

A lady recently commented on my post that her four year old daughter recites and reads my poetry. I think that is the best compliment I can ever get and that was for sure a memorable moment for me.

Any message you would like to give to the youth?

Read. We’ve become a society which doesn’t read and every stupid thing happening today can be attributed to this habit of not reading. We have crap content in our movies, songs and tv’s because we don’t read. We cannot appreciate art and literature in it’s true sense, because we don’t read. Powerful people are making fool of us by distorting facts about our culture and history because we ourselves have never read about our culture and history. Reading develops analytical thinking and people who read can easily spot an idiot from a distance. Reading is good for our democracy.
