‘Your talent is God’s gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God.’ – Leo Buscaglia
This is the mindset behind the inception of Dextra, an online platform that enables creative people – writers, dancers, painters, artists, etc. – express their creativity in a better way by helping them learn the essential skill set.
To its CEO & co-founder Divyaansh Anuj, Dextra is something that also gives his meaning a life (as he likes to put it).
Divyansh is a BITS Pilani alumnus and has previously worked as a software developer at Oracle. But the comforts of a secure IT job in a fancy office space didn’t give him the satisfaction he gets in overcoming the challenges that he faces every day in growing his startup.
Read on Divyaansh’s interview to get inspired & to know more about the online platform where you can express your creative thoughts more creatively.
Ques : Please provide a brief overview of your product/ service.
Dextra is a global collaborative platform for artists, designers, musicians, dancers, writers, filmmakers, and everyone creative.
Ques: What inspired you to build Dextra ?
The limitlessness of one’s thought, but the limitations on one’s capabilities inspired me to build it. There is so much that we have in our minds that can and should be expressed. However, we are restricted by our limited skill set. Dextra enables us to collaborate with people who have complementary skills to express ourselves in ways that we alone could never have.
Ques: What was the most challenging part of your journey till now?
There have been multiple challenges in the worldly sense, but nothing as challenging enough to qualify as an answer to this question. The joy of the journey supersedes the discomfort that any challenge brings. And I hope that it remains this way for all the challenges to come.
Ques: How did you overcome the challenges you’ve faced ?
The initial mindset challenges had already been conquered before I came up with the idea. In fact, it were these challenges which urged me to do something that has an impact, then just following a stable and a mainstream path that I was about to walk on. How I overcame the mindset initially had a lot to do with an existential crisis that I went through. It taught me that life is meaningless, but only when we don’t find a meaning for ourselves. I found Dextra to be my meaning.
Ques: Which online tools/ services/ apps do you use the most and would like to recommend as well?
Slack for communication. Asana for productivity. AngelList for recruitment. Calendly for scheduling.
Ques: Share any one habit which you think makes you more productive.
Every morning making a schedule for the day with actionable tasks and proper time slots. Because of the uncertainty in startups, it is hard to make a plan for the month, or even for the week. But by making a daily plan, we make sure that we get the most out of the each day. And thus the most out of our lives.
Ques: Share a quote that inspires you the most.
“Today is just the beginning for a better tomorrow” is one quote that inspires me the most always and I always rely on this during my tough times.
