1) How many members are there in your team ? What is the structure you’d followed ? How did you manage the different areas of work?
Well, Rotaract Club of Young Visionaries is a team of more than 100 members. Just like any traditional Rotaract Club, we have a proper hierarchy of members ranging from The President, his cabinet including The Secretary, The VP, Sgt. at arms, PRO, and a spectrum of directors covering the various areas of work as well as Zonal Heads ( leading the members of their respective zones). As mentioned, there are a no. of directors especially looking into their work fields, managing events respectively, doing everything, right from planning and organizing to ensuring proper setting up of the event. And the President, being omnipresent throughout, making sure, overall smooth functioning of the club, taking care of the minutest of details.
2) What were the different events in the event “Teachers Beyond Teaching” and the highlights of the event?
”Teachers Beyond Teaching”, was the celebration of teacherhood on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. The event witnessed the presence of some of those eminent teachers who deserve beyond recognition for their unconventional efforts put in their profession by them. The highlight of the event were the showcasing of the success stories of these hidden gems and the subsequent presenting of tokens of gratitude by formally inviting them onto the stage and applauding them and their actions till date. Apart from this, an Indian Classical Dance performance by one of the Rotaractors won many hearts. Even she dedicated her performance to her Guru, paying respect to him for enabling her to dance the way she did. It was truly captivating!
3) How did you gather the sponsorship partners and what all challenges did you face ?
Well, Rotaract Clubs are funded and supported by their respective parent Rotaray clubs, ours being Rotary Club Of Delhi Rendezvous. Hence, getting sponsors is never a problem for us, also because of our motto, “Service above self”. Whatever we do, we pursue the aim of serving the society, henceforth, sponsors are willing to lend a hand to us when it comes to funding such society friendly events. Nonetheless, we are extremely grateful to Paisa Wapas, for being so kind and cooperative and coming forward for this good cause.
4) Have you taken some heads up or inspiration from other events happening around your college or other top universities?
Well, most of the things Rotaractors do, are original, are our own ideas. A lot of thought goes behind conducting an event on any occasion for that matter, perse. Celebrating Teachers’ day and recognizing their contribution is something we all ought to do. Teachers are the first gurus of a child, and they shape our futures. We just can’t overlook their contribution to the society and their role in each of our lives. They are magicians in that sense. Hence, their presence itself, calls for celebration and that’s where the idea and inspiration of including Teachers’ Day, as a part of a Rotaract District event comes from.
5) How easy or difficult was it to convince the department teachers and authorities to give you the permission for the event activities ?
Well, not at all. As mentioned already, Rotaract Clubs are social service clubs, and the kind of work we do, so to say, inspires because Rotaractors are the youth of the nation and ultimately the future too. So, convincing people and organizational groups to help us when it comes to sponsorships, or for that matter, arranging for venues, is not really an issue for us. Almost every prestigious institution has a Rotaract Club, fortunately. So does DTU-Delhi Technological University. It being a district event, was an amalgamation of efforts of various Rotaract Clubs of the District, and hence, was DTU’s Rotaract Club a part of the event too. Therefore, taking permissions from the authorities was not a big deal as in a way, it was a chance for DTU and its students to help play their role in doing something great for the society too.
6) Why the name “Teachers beyond teaching”? What is the inspiration behind it ?
Whatever event we organize and conduct as Rotaract Clubs, are named first. The nomenclature of the respective event plays quite a quintessential role when it comes to events because the name ultimately becomes the face of the event. The event becomes an event when it is known by what is named as, which gives an idea of what the event ultimately is all about. So, quite a thought goes behind it. The Teachers’ Day celebration was named as “Teachers’ Beyond Teaching”; well the name kind of speaks for itself. As said already, for a matter of fact, if students are the future of a country, teachers are the directors of that future. They not only teach, they guide, nurture, counsel and mold the characters of their students. Hence, what they do is definitely beyond teaching and hence forth, the name.
7) What is the social significance or impact of this event?
The social significance or impact of this event is enormous. As stated already, teaching is a profession, not just worth recognizing, but also celebrating. Teaching also is somewhat an underpaid job. Consciously-unconsciously, it won’t be too much to say that teachers are the nation builders. So, how can we forget their contribution, their significance as a major part of the society, by the society, of the society and for the society? That’s exactly what the importance of this idea of making Teachers’ Day a grand affair is. It’s truly worth its hype and essence. Well, when we talk about the impact of the event, it is huge. Because, recognition is ultimately motivation and encouragement and that’s what we did. By paying our tributes to these super humans among us, haven’t we inspired hundreds of other teachers to work as selflessly as these superheroes with their invisible capes do. In fact, why only other teachers, for that matter, we, all of us as the future teachers, are truly inspired to work as diligently and holistically as these shining teachers do. Because, aren’t we all in one form or the other, a teacher to somebody or the other?
8) How was your experience with Paisawapas as a cashback partner ?
Well, our experience with Paisawapas as a cashback partner was quite pleasing, so to say. We were quite satisfied with its cooperation with us. Whatever feedback we received from the visitors about Paisawapas were also quite relieving. The fact, that Paisawapas stepped forward for such a nice cause is worth appreciating. We, RCYV, also on the behalf of Rotaract District 3011 are really grateful to Paisawapas for the same. We look forward to associating with you, sometime again hopefully, in the near future.
