Summers are a tiring time.
The worst comes when you catch a cold or an infection during this season and have to remain confined to your room, drink hot water to soothe your throat and pop a cocktail of pills to stay in your senses. Here are some tips to save you from collapsing under the summer heat and for you to stay fit in general, some of them more obvious than the others, but nonetheless, important.
1. Stay Hydrated
Drink loads of water. Carry a bottle of water with you at all times. Ideally, one should drink 15 glasses of water in a day, but, if you work a lot outdoors or sweat a lot, 20 glasses of water would do you no harm.
Carry a Thermo steel bottle (you can buy it here if you don’t already have one) full of cold water.

2. Dress Appropriately
Summers are hot. And to die of a heat stroke is simply embarrassing. So save yourself some embarrassment, and dress in light, loose clothes that allow plenty of air to your skin, absorb sweat and dry off easily.
Take out your shorts and cotton tees and let your skin breathe.
If you have to wear formals, switch to linen or cotton fabrics instead of tweeds and wool.
It’s important to keep your closet updated.

3. Eat what’s in season
Summer is the season of watermelon, melon, oranges, lychees and pineapples for a reason. Include these in your daily diet. Have a bowl of fruit twice a day, preferably as mid-morning and evening snacks to keep yourself healthy. These fruits are rich in water and full of essential vitamins and minerals to beat the heat. Moreover, the sugar content in these fruits provides energy and nourishment to the body.
4. Use sunscreen
If you think that sunscreen lotions are just regular lotions put in fancy bottles, that’s a myth!
Let me put it out here, SUNSCREEN LOTIONS WORK!
Apply a thick layer of sunscreen lotion of your choice whenever you are about to step out in the sun, not just on the face, but on your arms and legs as well. Apply sun protection cream on any body part exposed directly to the sun, baring your hair, of course!

5. Air Conditioning for only when it’s hot outside
We love our air conditioners, don’t we?
But, there is only so much artificial air that our body can handle.
As a standard practice, try to reduce the usage of air conditioners at home only during the day, when it is actually hot outside.
It is still pleasant enough during the night to give you good sleep just with the fan running in your room. But, if you really feel the need to have a chilled room, switch the AC on an hour or so before hitting the bed, and turn it off when you sleep.
This will ensure a good night’s sleep for you and you’ll wake fresh and active because you breathing in the natural air all through the night.
That’s all folks!
