Independence Day which is on the 15th of August will mark the 70th year of Independent India. Independence Day in India is celebrated with great splendor, joy, and pride to honor and celebrate Mother India. Different cultures in India celebrate this day in different ways but the essence of patriotism towards Mother India remains the same, at its maximum.

On the eve of Independence Day, the President of India delivers the “Address to the Nation”. The Prime Minister hoists the Indian flag in Red Fort, Delhi on the Independence Day. The National Anthem, composed by Rabindranath Tagore is then sung. Followed by twenty-one-gun shots to honor the solemn occasion. The Prime Minister then gives a speech in which he highlights the past year’s achievements, raises new issues and elaborates on further developments. He also pays tribute to the leaders and the torch bearers of the Indian Independence Movement. This is followed by the march past of divisions of the Indian Armed Forces.
Similar events take place in state capitals where the Chief Ministers of that state unfurls the national flag and it is followed by cultural events like dance, music, speeches, etc. Also, these events take place in several governmental and non-governmental organizations or institutions at various scales.
Flying kites is one of the fun traditions and in many cities, like Delhi and Mumbai, the sky is filled with various kites of a variety of colors most of them in the colors of the national flag. To some people, these kites are a symbol of their freedom from the British rule. Many places even kite flying competitions with great prizes. People dress in various shades of the tricolor (orange, white and green). This day has become a celebration of everything Indian from your morning glass of cutting chai to your evenings at the pani puri stall, this day celebrates every single aspect of being an Indian.

Schools, colleges, offices and other organizations host celebrations where the hoist the flag and sing, dance and rejoice. They even enact the freedom struggles and attending these events is a great idea because it’s one day of celebration of fun in your normal mundane life. Sweets are usually distributed too.

Celebrating this day with children is orphanages and people in old age homes is a wonderful idea. You can go to any of these places in your locality and just spend an entire day with them.
