Out of all the sports and games, cricket is the most loved one with a huge crowd being die-hard fans of the game and the players. And Indian cricket and crows witnessed a heartbreak when a much-loved and respected player stepped down from the captaincy. Yes, this time it’s about the great and best caption India can ever get, Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

From 2007 to 2016, Dhoni was the star who made India shine bright with his radiance. What Captain Cool  has given to the game and team is something which can never be replaced. The courtesy, diplomacy, and hardship he brought about and the respect he commanded undoubtedly made him a succesful skipper and an adored sportsperson. Dhoni will always hold a very special place in the hearts and minds of Indians. There are various moments in his life, after being the member of Indian cricket team that will remain etched in the in mind of every Indian. So, let’s have a look at Dhoni’s contribution to the Indian cricket team and why he will always be a legend in the cricketing fraternity.

• Victory in 2011 World Cup


The country was little disappointed by the team’s performance on the field until Yuvraj Singh and Dhoni came and conquered the game. By winning the battle against all odds, Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh made the scoreboard more attractive for every Indian. Against Sri Lanka, on the land of the country, held in Mumbai, Dhoni hit an epic winning six. Living up to the expectations of the fans, Dhoni created the history by bringing the second World Cup trophy back to the country after 27 years. Salute Sir!

Dhoni inspired and instilled a hope in the team’s heart to win the match. Even after the bad weather, Indian cricket team got the trophy against England on their own land. India completed its victory series by winning the last format left to become a world champion. In a 20 over game, it was even difficult to score 130 runs but Dhoni was the man on mission and the one to make it possible.

• 2007 World T20

When India had its back against the wall, Indian cricket team had a turnaround in the game under the leadership of Dhoni. In the last over of T20 World, held in Johannesburg, Pakistan required just 13 runs to secure victory. Indian cricket team was trained well under Dhoni’s leadership, made the victory possible with a catch by Sreesanth. The heartbeat of every Indian had stopped until India clinched the World T20 for the first time ever.

• 2016 T20 World Cup


Even though it Twenty20 World Cup final did not turn out to be what was expected, still it created a great series for Dhoni. Being a player of the series, Virat Kohli took Indian team to the finish line. Under the leadership of Dhoni and his great tricks, India was able to lead from Bangladesh by 1 run and took three wickets, one by Dawan, second by Jadeja and the last one by Dhoni, of the last three balls. What matters than being an epic part of such an amazing match, Dhoni and the team took it all.

• Asia Cup win, 2010


In the tenth addition of Asian Cricket Tournament, India won the match against Sri Lanka by 81 runs and won the trophy fifth time. When Yuvraj Singh and Dhoni were left in the field, Dhoni took the stand to save the victory for the country and made millions of countrymen proud and happy.
Magnificent and unbelievable in so many unexpected ways, Mahendra Singh Dhoni became a synonym of success for Indian cricket team. He, because of his effort and the only dream for the country, created the history that no one can ever do. “I believe in giving more than 100% on the field and I don’t really worry about the results if there’s great commitment on the field. That’s victory for me.”~ His motivational words will keep resonating as long as the game is played with fervour and passion.
